Going Global With Keyword Analysis
Filed under All About BloggingJun 8A lot of affiliate marketers make the mistake of omitting keywords from other languages when marketing their products and services. This can mean they miss out on a huge amount of business.
The basis for the argument of using keywords and phrases from other languages is, in essence, a numbers game. By using such keywords, you immediately increase the size of your potential audience, and the larger your audience, the more sales you are likely to make. That said, there are a few caveats.
First is that, while you can use keywords from other languages, it is simply not cost-effective to have multiple versions of your webpages in separate languages. That is fine for large corporations who can hire translators and have people from various regions of the globe working for them. If you want to grow your sales but don’t have these resouces, you will probably need to focus on one language.
You need to research keywords in languages spoken by your target market, but who also understand English. For example, a large percentage of people in Europe speak English, even if it is not an official language of their country, but they are likely to perform internet searches in their mother tongue.
So, if you take your keywords and translate them to French, Spanish, German, Italian, etc., and have your landing page written in English, there is a good chance that the people who end up on your site because of those keywords will be able to understand it and they will read your pitch.
Your niche will dictate the viability of this approach. When marketing services and products to a specific geographic area, you don’t need to spend time and money on translation.
You should also be awar of spelling variations and word differences within languages. The perfect example of this is the United Kingdom and the United States. Both have English as their official language, but there are many variations on spelling between the two.
Also, objects and actions will have different words associated with them on occasion.
The number one thing to keep in mind is whether or not the process of translating or adjusting for language variations is cost effective for your business. Analyze the traffic to your site and see what countries those people are coming from. These numbers will reveal if it’s worth the effort or not.
This doesn’t have to be put in the ‘too hard basket’ because there are some great tools that will help with these tasks. One is particularly well regarded. Something as easy as tweaking a word’s spelling could mean thousands of dollars into your affiliate marketing account.
